The Evolution of Artera

Over the last decade, Artera has continuously adapted and innovated to meet the evolving needs of healthcare organizations and their patients. Originally created as a straightforward texting solution for providers, it has evolved into a sophisticated, intelligent platform that streamlines, connects and elevates patient interactions into one unified system.

Today, Artera is trusted by over 900 healthcare organizations, including specialty groups, large health systems, FQHCs and federal agencies. Our AI-powered virtual agents allow providers to support their staff, streamline workflows and deliver superior care to the communities they serve. 2015: The Birth of WELL Health (Now Artera)

In 2015, our company was born out of frustration after an unnerving personal health scare experienced by our founder. Despite receiving high-quality care, our CEO and Co-Founder Guillaume de Zwirek found the process of coordinating care as a patient both inconvenient and inefficient: waiting on hold, leaving voicemails and missed calls was the norm. The burden of communication was placed on the patient, which felt backwards.

With healthcare’s deep resources, infinite market, and mission-driven employee base, it could be the #1 industry in customer service – and that became our mission. Starting as WELL Health, our platform initially provided simple texting solutions, a welcome innovation for healthcare providers looking to stay connected with their patients.

This ability to engage patients in real-time created a foundation for empathy-driven healthcare services, setting the stage for a broader transformation in the way providers and patients interact.

From Simple Texting to a Complete Solution for Patient Engagement

Over the years, Artera took bold leaps forward, with each step designed to solve the challenges healthcare organizations face. Here’s how we’ve evolved over the past decade:

  1. 2015-2022: WELL established itself as the go-to tool for healthcare texting, ensuring seamless patient-provider communication.
  2. 2022-2024: WELL rebranded to Artera and transitioned into a powerful patient communication software, enabling office staff to manage voice, text and web-based communication from a unified platform called Artera Harmony. This open platform – Artera Harmony – integrates with a provider’s existing technology, suite of applications and various departments, to streamline patient communications, minimize message overload and consolidate various channels for personalized messaging.
  3. 2024-2025: Artera became an AI-powered digital patient engagement platform, streamlining healthcare operations. Advanced capabilities like actionable insights, real-time language translation and workflow-enhancing efficiencies set us apart. Artera also launched many new solutions: Artera Intake & Payments, Artera ScheduleCare, Pulse Outreach, Branded Messaging and two new AI co-pilots.
  4. 2025 and beyond: True to its innovative spirit, Artera is committed to building the future of healthcare communication by introducing virtual agents for healthcare, offering cutting-edge automation for patient interactions while preserving the human touch.
