Houston Methodist Study: Investigating Patient Engagement Associations Between a Postdischarge Texting Programme and Patient Experience, Readmission and Revisit Rates Outcomes

A recent study, authored by Houston Methodist and published in BMJ, highlights the effectiveness of post-discharge text messaging with Artera. The study examined the association between patient engagement with post-discharge texting and outcomes such as HCAHPS scores, readmissions, and revisits. Houston Methodist shows that patients who engaged through text messages (meaning they had 3+ patient-initiated incoming text interactions) experienced significant benefits:

  • 29% fewer hospital admissions
  • 27% lower chance of readmission within 30 days
  • 20% fewer visits
  • Higher satisfaction scores (HCAHPS)
